GSWR Cplumbus, GA to Smithville, GA road train takes advantage of NS trackage rights. |
| Description: |
The train mainly hauled pulpwood and aggregate from the Vulcan Quarry in Fortson, GA (near Columbus and on the NS) to a distribution yard in Bainbridge, GA on the GSWR proper. After several washouts due to Opal, GSWR abandoned its own ex SAL route through Richland, GA and began running over the leased Columbus to Americus line. From there the trrain used NS trackage rights to get to Smithville, then used sister railroad GAAB to reach the south end of the original GSWR to get to Bainbridge. |
